The UCI regulates the Tour de France, imposing penalties for riders who violate the foundations for street racing, with fines and the lack of UCI factors for something from driving and not using a helmet to getting right into a fistfight.

In 2025, the UCI will impose a ‘yellow card’ system for repeat offenders to discourage riders from purposely breaking guidelines and simply taking the punishment. Two or extra infractions will result in riders being ejected from the race and suspended for every week, three will get a two-week ban from racing and if riders get six in a 12 months, they are often suspended for 30 days.
