Former cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar believes Pakistan’s subsequent matches will shed extra mild on whether or not the “intent” of the defending champions is a matter or an “inherent skill.” Pakistan left the followers agitated with their lack of intent and laggard method whereas pursuing a frightening 321-run goal towards New Zealand within the Champions Trophy opener in Karachi. On a dry strip full of cracks, a 321-run goal gave the impression to be chasable if Pakistan batters caught to a run-a-ball method. Nonetheless, Pakistan batters’ unrushed method slowly took them out of the race.

Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan determined to take a defensive route when enjoying with aggression was the necessity of the hour. Pakistan’s premier batter, Babar Azam, surprisingly adopted a cautious method as Pakistan slowly crawled to 69/3 in 20.5 overs.

When Pakistan’s scenario grew to become dire, the onus of briskly piling up runs fell on Babar. The previous skipper opened his arms, holed it to Kane Williamson off Mitchell Santer and returned with 64 runs from 90 deliveries.

Manjrekar checked out Babar and Pakistan’s efficiency from a broader perspective. He feels the following couple of matches will resolve whether or not the problem lies in intent or Pakistan’s inherent skill.

“Babar Azam clearly confirmed poor intent within the first sport. However within the subsequent couple of matches we’ll know if intent is a matter with Pakistan or inherent skill. If it is skill then that may’t be simply resolved,” Manjrekar wrote on X.

With nearly all of Pakistan batters resorting to an overprotective method, vice-captain Salman Ali Agha and all-rounder Khushdil Shah had been extra proactive on the pitch.

Salman entertained the group together with his swift 42 from 28 deliveries, whereas Khushdil went all weapons blazing en path to 69(49). Their valiant efforts weren’t sufficient to take Pakistan previous the ending line, with the defending champions succumbing to a 60-run defeat.

Pakistan will now head to Dubai for the blockbuster conflict towards India on Sunday, a conflict which holds the facility to outline their title defence.
